SUMMARY

Through a scenario-based approach, learners are guided step-by-step through reporting a real-world incident using the Amtrak Safety Reporting System.

The course focuses on a two-part reporting process—Event and Impact— helping learners understand how to accurately document both the incident and its effect on the customer. The system walkthrough is designed to mirror the actual interface, making the experience highly practical and relevant.

This training provides clear, actionable guidance and reinforces the importance of accuracy, completeness, and compliance, enabling employees to confidently submit safety reports in real-world situations.

Goals

Problem:

Employees often find the Safety Reporting System complex and time-consuming, especially when completing both Event and Impact reporting. This can lead to incomplete submissions, errors, or delays, affecting data accuracy and overall compliance with safety procedures.

My goal:

To design a clear, step-by-step learning experience that simplifies a complex reporting system, using a realistic scenario to help learners understand and navigate the process with confidence.

Training goal:

To ensure employees can accurately complete both Event and Impact reporting, enabling them to document safety incidents effectively and comply with reporting requirements in real-world situations.

The design & development process:

  • Scenario Design: Developed a realistic incident scenario (customer fall on escalator) to provide context and relevance for the reporting process.

  • System Simulation: Created step-by-step system walkthroughs that mirror the actual interface, helping learners become familiar with navigation and data entry.

    Incorporated guided navigation, prompts, and decision points to reinforce learning and ensure engagement.
